The history of the whole human race...

I've just been reading a book called "Guns, Germs and Steel: A short history of everybody for the last 13,000 years" by Jared M Diamond and it's really made me think that happiness has got to be the way forward for the human race.

The book asks the question 'why did western Europe take over the world and not Africa???' and then gets quite worried about being called racist! Anyway, that aside, it looks at how humans developed from a few thousand 50,000 years ago to our present levels of pouplation and technology in the present day. A truly fscianating insight into how things came to be how they are today.

The history of our race has been a long story of technological change leading to population growth leading to technological change. It seems like a journey heading towards a destination - but we have now seen that you can never have enough stuff, so you never really arrive anywhere. Unless you arrive at the point of saying "we can never have enough stuff so lets change direction and head towards something that makes life better and doesn't destroy the planet - HAPPINESS".
